Westerville High School

Class of 1956

Dear classmates and friends.

Fifty years ago, we left the halls of WHS for marriage, farm, job, college, business and other ventures. There were 98 of us then, almost a c-note of people. 20 have died and left this world forever. The rest of us carry on.

Here's the first of several photos sent by Dave and Sandy taken at our fiftieth reunion. Over the next two weeks or so I'll post all the photos I've received. This first (below) is one of the group photos taken Friday evening at good ol' Westerville High School. I'm waiting for one of our class experts to tell me everyone's name. Thanks, King (Collins).

We shared a big part of growing up together:

Together

in the classrooms and the halls,
on the gym floor, the track and football fields
in the creeks and swimming holes and Glengary Pool
in the kitchens, dining rooms and backyards
in the garages, barns and hay fields
on the sidewalks, paths and country roads
of a little town in the middle of Ohio

Some of us stayed and put down roots.
    Others wandered.
         Thank God for both.

For a moment we are together again, some for the first time since we parted fifty years ago. There are more stories to be told.

P.S. Our fiftieth reunion was a blessing; it felt so congenial to me, which is a credit to Barbara and those who helped organize it. I know it's hard to do this kind of thing. The better it is done, the less you notice the background work that makes it happen. Special thanks to Barbara, Jerri and Sue who pulled the emotional strings that caused me to come back for this gathering.
