Dear MPFAer,
As a result of negotiations on October 29, we have a tentative agreement on a contract with the District! Key features are:- 6% raise, retroactive to the start of fall semester, 1999.
- Health benefits MPFA and the administration will conduct a survey of part-time faculty regarding individual interest in participating in the health benefit program for part-time faculty (a survey form will be enclosed in the November paycheck). Late last month, the governor signed AB 420, which provides funds for reimbursement to colleges that offer benefits to part-time instructors. This measure greatly extends the availability of benefits, since it is no longer necessary to work at two or more colleges to be eligible. Anyone teaching a 40% or greater ETE load is eligible.
Does this sound good? If you are in favor of these changes (the others are minor), we can get final approval at the December board of trustees meeting if we have your vote returned by Thursday, November 11. If we have your vote on this tentative agreement by this date (and the majority votes to approve it), the administration can include the increase for the entire fall semester in our January 2000 paychecks.
CCA negotiator/representative Alan Frey says that this tentative agreement is unusually generous for 1999-2000 at a California community college. Our negotiators heartily recommend a "yes" vote.
Full text of the tentative agreement is available in room 1067 in Ukiah, and at the Lake and Willits center workrooms. It is also available on the MPFA website at www.zapcom.net/~mpfa
