"Infrequent Flyer"
September, 1999

Dear Part-time Faculty Colleague,

Read the new on-line MPFA REVIEW! Bumping right along this fall semester, MPFA has a few events scheduled that you may want to put on your overcrowded calendars.

Remember those socials last year? Well, we're having fewer of them this year, but the emphasis is on "social."

The first is: MPFA Social in Ukiah - Friday, October 1, 5 p.m. @ El Sombrero Restaurant (the Cantina upstairs), corner of Main and Mill Streets.

Office Hours (PAID!) - One of the great leaps forward in the 1998 agreement with the District was a pilot paid office hour program. Word has come down from the personnel office that 31 part-timers will be paid $20 for each of 16 office hours they keep this semester. The "when" is up to each of the 31, and--it appears--so is the "where." Roger Hock and the academic senate office space committee are rounding up places and times when offices (other than our already-overbooked resource offices) will be available for office hours. So, if you are among the lucky 31, find space wherever you can, and we'll keep you posted on space/time availability as soon as we hear something.

Flex Committee: Help Wanted - MPFA needs a representative on the college flex committee. It pays $50/semester (District funds!), and only meets five times/year. Remaining meetings this year are: Tuesdays, Oct. 19, Nov. 23, Feb. 8 and March 7, all during college hour (12:30-1:30). It's an important committee that plans flex activities and calendar for the year. Please call Neill Bell at 463-1461 (or leave a note in his box).

Elections - You will soon receive an election ballot for MPFA officers and directors in your mailbox. You will note familiar names from 1998-99, because most of the "old regime" has agreed--in the absence of new volunteers--to serve for another year. Sound positively Soviet? Be sure to vote for the comrade of your choice, or--better yet--volunteer!

MPFA Negotiations for 1999-2000 - Friday, October 1, 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., at the Eagle's Nest on the Ukiah campus. Meet with the MPFA negotiating team (including CCA representative Alan Frey from Sacramento) and discuss issues that are on the table this year. Our negotiators will be meeting with the admin. team later in the afternoon, so this is a timely opportunity to inform and be informed about bargaining positions. (This is much like what we did on August 27--drop by!)

Executive Board meeting - Monday, October 11, at 1 p.m. in the CTA office, Victory Theatre, 306 S. Main Street, Ukiah. All part-timers are welcome to attend and participate.
