Dear Part-time Faculty Colleague,2001-2002 Agreement Ratified Thanks to your quick response (and the helpful staff at the Willits and Lake Centers), we have an agreement with the District that will show up in our March paychecks. By a vote of 64-0, part-time faculty approved the deal that will give us an increase of 11.57%--including a 3.87% COLA--retroactive to fall semester. In our March checks, we should see the entire retroactive increase for any classes you taught last fall, and the COLA increase should take effect. The rest of the increase for spring should be included in our last (June) checks of this semester. Our negotiators will be working with the District to define "pro-rata" and "right of assignment" for future agreements. We will have a workshop this spring to get more information about how YOU would like to see the all-important terms defined.
Office Hours If you are one of those who are teaching a 40% or greater load (6 units, roughly-check with personnel if you are unsure) and you weren't among those who was approved for spring semester office hours, you may still qualify. Several of us missed the "deadline" of January 11, imposed unilaterally by personnel. If you are one of these, you may apply immediately to receive one paid hour (at $20) per week to meet with students. It's first come, first served until the money runs out.
Publication Resolution The MC Academic Senate is considering sponsoring a faculty publication. Part-time faculty have demonstrated enthusiasm for this concept, and we are hoping for added support before the vote is taken in a week or two. Please contact our senate reps Geri Burrell (468-3040) and/or Victoria Patterson (468-3408)-or any other senate members-to make your views about better campus communication known.
Don't miss Marley's Ghost! Sponsored by MPFA Saturday, March 2 @ 8 p.m. in the Little Theater, Ukiah campus. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students under 18, and are available at the MC Bookstore, Mendocino Book Co. in Ukiah, and Leaves of Grass Books in Willits. This concert-which will open with the spectacular local female vocal group Breath-was put together by Ron Tinkler, MC geography instructor, MPFA board member and musician. MPFA and co-sponsor KZYX may not make much money from this "benefit" concert, but it will energize our college community and show part-time faculty leadership. So, come on out and enjoy Marley's Ghost in concert. Thanks, Ron!
