College Salary Raise
By DEBORAH FINESTONE The Daily Journal
Mendocino Community College administrators will receive a retroactive pay raise, a decision based on salaries paid at other community colleges in California.A 1998-'99 salary study conducted by the college based on data from the Association of Cal ifornia Community College Administrators established target salaries for the various administrative officers. The college has negotiated to pay 95 percent of those target salaries, plus retroactive pay to July 1999.
The total cost to the college of the increases is $130,100 this fiscal year, according to the college board of trustees. The decision to give the raises was made at their Wednesday meeting.
Carl Ehmann, college superintendent/president, said the salaries, just shy of the target, were agreed upon based on the school's budget. "It's what we could do best with the money we have," he said. Ehmann himself received a $7,000 raise as part of the salary changes and now earns $113,282 per year.
One position's salary was already at the target level, that of the Project Manager-Workforce Preparation, so that salary did not change.
With the raises, salaries for other administrators are: executive vice president of academic affairs, $94,289; vice president of administrative affairs, $94,289; dean of instruction, dean of student services, $83,600 each; assistant dean of community extension, $76,000; assistant dean of Lake Center, director of computing services, director of personnel services, director of special student services, $76,000 each; director of admissions and records, director of facility services, director of fiscal services, $72,200 each.
Full-time faculty at the college received a pay raise of 3.36 per cent this year, part-time faculty got a 6 percent raise and classified staff received 3 percent hikes.
T'ne board of trustees also approved a reorganization of administrative positions. An new assistant dean of instruction position will replace one vacant dean of instruction position, and be supervised by the remaining dean of instruction.
