The Secret Life of KZYX, A Minority Report was distributed, initially, to board and staff. At the same time I put excerpts of the report on the web. I have received at least 20 responses, and I am putting these up on the web. Where appropriate, I have replied to these responses. Note that there is only one response from staff: Owen O'Toole. However, the response from WDan, husband of Loretta Houk, is probably close to the view of other staffers.
The Big Picture. My report is part of a larger agitation for “public disclosure and free speech” and community control of our local media. (See Minority Report "Big Picture")
The staff and board majority did not respond to the content of my writing and passed it off as campaign rhetoric. It was far from that. I hate the compromises and half-truths of electoral politics. For more of my feeling about that, see my responses to Kate Marianchild.
Now that the board election is over, the work of refining and clarifying begins. I don't expect any help from staff or board majority on this project, but I am committed to it.
There's some valuable material here. KZYX historians and those of us who are interested in the Ukiah Studio project, will be interested in a 1996 paper sent by Jim Tarbell, and a report by Lynda McClure (written in 2001).
Thanks to all of those who took the time to write. Please email me if you find typos or other problems with this web site.
