"Temperatures dropped suddenly here. . ." Dear People,
After last week,s summer-like heat, temperatures dropped suddenly here to twenty degrees Saturday night. I built my first fire in my stove and said good-bye to some of the workers who have headed south.
I hate to send out statements, but I finally got around to it last week, so I hope that those of you who got one will be sending my money by the end of the season. If there are any questions about these accounts, please call me and let me know. I am my own bookkeeper and responsible for any errors.
The turnips this week were probably started a week or two late as they have not grown much in spite of warm weather during much of September and October. These little white Hakurei turnips are mild and good raw or steamed with their greens. I just wish they were bigger and these were the biggest of the ones that we sowed. Parsnips we start in March or April as they germinate best in cool weather and grow through the summer, but taste best after it has frosted some. You may like to put these into soups or they are nice roasted with meat or some oil.
Sincerely,
Tom Palley
