 What's In Today's Box?

New red potatoes
Sweet corn
Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Squash
Bell peppers
Green beans
Parsley
Garlic

Dear people,

We are digging these first potatoes by hand and they lose some skin when we wash them so they will not keep as long as potatoes usually do when they have cured. Our efforts to keep worms out of the corn have met with partial success. We apply oil to the silks of each ear as they are about 5 or six days from first silk. This discourages those worms that enter the ear from the tip. Where this has failed to do the job we have snipped off the tips of the ears.

The parsley today is a flat leaf Italian parsley. It is grown for the flavor more than as a garnish. Basil is making a comeback after being chopped severely a week or so ago. We should have more in weeks to come. Melons are growing and we hope to have some for you next week.

Sincerely,

Tom Palley
