"We have a new variety of strawberry
this year called Jewel."Dear People,
Welcome to another season of food from Covelo Organic.
We have a new variety of strawberry this year called "Jewel." We planted 500 plants last year and in the past week we picked about 500 pints of sweet berries. Last Saturday in Ukiah we found that many took advantage of our three for $5.00 offer. We are including three baskets in each box this week.
We have our first sugar snap peas. These are a sweet edible pod pea that grow sweeter as they swell in the pod. We expect lots of these peas in the next few weeks.
A wet, wet April kept us from making the expected sowings and plantings until mid May. We will be a bit slow tp provide the spring crops of spinach, turnips, carrots, beets, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower, but these are growing and expected for the weeks ahead. Tomatoes and basil are growing in hoophouses and will preceed the outdoor crops by a month or more.
Please remember to leave your empty box for us to pick up next week as we try to make these last for the year. Thank you for your deposits. They keep us afloat at this time of year.
Sincerely,
Tom Palley
