A somewhat enchanted place carved from a 5000 acre ranch in the late 70s; once populated by a gypsy theater group, the Illuminated Elephants (who built a stage in one of the barns), feminists. hippies, "radical psychologists" and back-to-the-landers. In earlier years, it was cooperatively owned but it has devolved to private ownership by Claude Steiner who allows some democracy in the form of a renters coop that meets monthly. There are 14 low-rent living units and Lake Pennyroyal, a 12-acre lake.
