The Butler Cherry Ranch Project is a community-based project
that
commemorates the lives of Ukiah cherry ranchers George and Ella
Butler
and celebrates their decades-long tradition of sharing the fruits
of their
labor with their neighbors, the people of Mendocino County. The
Butler
Cherry Ranch Project has three major goals: to document the history
of
the Butler Ranch and its historic cherry-picking tradition, primarily
through oral interviews and the collection of photographs; to
create a
community orchard and education center to teach our children
about
how to grow food crops organically "in our back yard";
and to establish
educational programs and opportunities in the names of George
and Ella Butler.

The Workbook - Access To Information
Out of print: Contact regarding back issues: www.sric.org
The Workbook was a fully indexed catalog of sources of information
about environmental, social, and consumer problems. It was aimed
at helping people gain access to vital information that can help
them assert control over their own lives. This has been one of
my favorite social change publications over the years and one
that just didn't get the widespread recognition it deserved,
despite the fact that it was cited four times by Project Censored
for covering "Best Censored Stories" during the past
decade, was nominated in service journalism for Utne Reader's
" Best of the Alternative Press Award," and that reprints
of articles were routinely requested by university and college
professors across the country for classroom use.
If you're involved at all in any aspect of social change
work this publication was a valuable resource tool for your activities.
The Southwest Research & Information Center will help anyone
interested in taking over publication of The Workbook. Contact
them if it's you!
