Let's by all means grieve together---By Susan Sontag
Thoughts in the Presence of Fear---By Wendell Berry
Dear reader,
I have chosen these pieces, written shortly after the attacks of September 11, to broadcast as widely as I can. The authors are Americans of integrity and eloquence and their perspective is part of the discussion going on all around our country. And yet, if you are getting your news mostly from television and newspapers, you probably haven't heard or seen any of these articles.
Susan Sontag's piece says so well what I felt atfter 9/11. Whenever I read it I am shocked, angered, and inspired. I'll always think of her as a hero. The rest of these pieces are worth reading and rereading. Nothing has changed. Unfortunately.
I'm putting this out with my name on it because it seems to me that we must let each other know how we feel, connect with each other and keep each other informed.
We'll find a way out of this madness. We have to. That's our job, and we're going to do it.
I'd like to hear what other folks are thinking.
